Since its establishment in 1982, the Department of Prosthodontics has been devoted to offering high-quality prothodontic dental treatments for patients, providing systematic prosthodontic teachings and carrying out cutting-edge scientificdentalresearch. The Department of Prosthodontics shares high reputation domestically. It is designated as Zhejiang Innovation Medical Discipline, and serves as a leading center for clinical services, teachings and scientific research in Zhejiang. The departmentalsoplays an active role in the national and provincial professional academic societies, such as Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA), Chinese Dental Materials Society, Chinese Society of Dental Technology, Chinese Stomatological Esthestics Society, Zhejiang  Prosthodontics Society, Zhejiang Stomatological Association and Zhejiang Dentists Association. Such a highly qualified faculty not only assumes the educational responsibility for undergraduates and graduates, but also provides standardized resident training and advanced post-graduate education programs for practical dentists.

The department generally provides dental service for almost 20,000 patients per year. Three specialized teams are established, targeting at comprehensive cases, including the team of restoration-oriented implant dentistry, the team of esthetic-guided digital restoration and the multi-disciplinary team of restoration-oriented occlusal reconstruction. At a domestic leading level, the department performs excellently in the field of anterior teethindividualizedaesthetic restoration, digital ceramic restoration treatment, mandibular motion analyses, occlusal rehabilitation, prosthodontic treatment of temporomandibular joint disease, bone augmentation surgery (such as onlay, GBR, lateral window sinus elevation surgery, etc.) and complex restoration of implant dentistry (e.g. fixed implant-supprted restoration for edentulous patients).

The department is engaged in both clinical studies and basic research with supports by abundant foundations, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Research & Development Program of Science and Zhejiang Technology Department, and Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation, etc. Our research mainly involves two core fields： biomaterials and clinical research. Extensive research activities are also conducted in the following areas:a) prosthodontic technology, b) digital dentistry and esthetic restorations, c) physiology and disorders in stomatognathic system, d) etiology, diagnosis and treatment of rare disorders (e.g. hypodontia, oligodontia)，e）regenerative dentistry.
