Periodontics

The Department of Periodontology of ZJUSS is a hub for exceptional patient care, education and scholarly works at graduate and postgraduate levels. In terms of size and capacity, we domain the largest periodontology department in Zhejiang province. We have a range of diversified staffs which comprise of 22 periodontists, five hygienists and eight nurses. We have sufficient resources and staffs in all areas to provide the best services for our patients. Around 50,000 patients come to us for treatment every year, including international patients who find our services easy to access and dependable.

We provide therapy at various levels to a large group of patients, including general periodontal treatment services as well as complex treatments, such as peri-implant minimally-invasive aesthetic surgery and periodontal tissue regeneration for patients who need specialist treatment.


Conditions treated

The department offers treatment within the following areas:

· Medical conditions affecting the periodontium

· Acute problems such as desquamative gingivitis, necrotising gingivitis.

· Aggressive forms of periodontal diseases

· Chronic periodontitis patients who have had a course of oral hygiene instruction and scaling.

· Mucogingival problems.

· Peri-implantitis

· Other complex diseases characterised by periodontal tissue destruction, e.g. hereditary gingival fibromatosis, palmar metatarsal keratinis-periodontal destruction syndrome


Research and education

The department enjoys a reputation in both clinical and research field in Zhejiang province and the whole country. Our department has undertaken several National Natural Science Foundation projects, which has greatly promoted the improvement of clinical diagnosis and treatment techniques. The department is dedicated to the overall training of undergraduate dental students and the teaching of periodontics through demonstrations and hands-on training. Our advanced education program on periodontology provides students with a wealth of clinical and didactic experience to prepare them for the study and practice of periodontics in an academic or clinical setting. The department is also responsible for training the next generation of periodontists and other dental professionals. We work closely with Zhejiang University, in providing extensive training sessions to help and develop academic expertise.

The department plays a leading role in promoting the standardized diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases. Currently, there are three of our staffs are the members of the Professional Committee of Periodontology of Chinese Stomatological Association. We are committed to optimizing the general health of our patients and the community through providing superior periodontal care and our state-of-the-art programs in teaching, patient care and research.
